Coming back to school after lockdown

Reflections and Dioramas

Finally lockdown is over and we can start going out again! We also get to go to school again! 😄 No more home learning or zoom. The only bad thing is we have to wear some revolting masks. Which is really annoying because I have tried wearing them and it’s not really fun in my opinion. It is also kind of puzzling to wear masks as only doctors and nurses used to. Now everyone is wearing them. It also is kind of hard talking to people with a mask on. 😷 But I am really thrilled to go to school, so I won’t mind that much. I was excited to come to school because I like to sit in the welcoming classroom and learn new things. I like to sit in the classroom and do my work there because I am more motivated there than sitting in my tedious bedroom. I also don’t need to look at my typical iPad screen all day. I was excited to come to school because we get to do fun things in the classroom. Such as a topic we did in Term 2 and 3 “Bottle Toss”. You basically had to flip bottles and do some math problems with your results. I also like to have art classes. Because I like to draw and I also want to have some inspiration to follow along with. So I think I love art class. Which Involves in our school schedule. I also like school because they host special games such as one we had on the 29th of November just recently. It included home groups being countries and contributing in the Olympics. This was one of the reasons I was really merry to come back to school. I got to socialise with my friends in person and not on the internet. Seeing faces in real life gave me joy and happiness. I also got to meet new teachers that were going to replace another teacher. It will also stop me from itching my eyes as I am always on a nasty screen. I was excited to come to school to learn new methods of learning and educate myself. I enjoy learning because when there’s a test I won’t be stuck on a question for a long time. I also enjoy learning to pass time. I also like to learn because I want to challenge myself. I like coming to school because you get to socialise with friends and teachers. You also get to learn new things which are interesting such as for me I would like to learn about war in history. I also like to come to school because we do fun things in the classroom. - Prabhjeet

Why I am excited to go to school!!! 💧 Drip drop💧 Water trickled down my window, the sound bugged me as I tried to focus on the narrative I was meant to write for school work🏫 Rattle shake shake. I had made a doorbell by stuffing a kinder surprise egg with plastic balls and tying it up with string🚪.The door swung open , my baby sister barging into the room trying to climb onto my chair. 😭I mean life in lockdown is the worst, and I’m longing to get out of the house, but I don’t want to break the law and be sent to prison or something⛓. Home learning is very difficult, since you can’t really ask questions, and sometimes the work is too easy.💻 😆😁😄The reason why I am excited to be back at school is I can finally, finally see my friends again!!!! I mean, being in a class zoom using private chat to talk with your friends is no fun. Finally being able to have a face to face conversation is amazing. Being back at school is really fun and I can’t wait till restrictions lift and we can get back to normal. “HORRAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! - Jiya

I’m pumped to be back at school again. I get to socialise with my non existent friends and get to enjoy hands on learning again. Of course I’ll mention some things that I will miss being back at school but mostly positives. Being at school again means finally being able have conversations with people in person instead having to agree on a time to join a zoom or google meet. I’m stoked to be able to enjoy having a discussion or petty squabble with my peers even if we’re wearing a face mask. It’s feels like things are at least semi-normal around here again. Also being able to enjoy hands on learning without having to open up a keynote/book creator/ pages/ what ever writing software you use is incredible. I’ll definitely enjoy doing activities while being actually present at the school. And I have to mention some things I’m not the happiest about, for example having a time limit to work on activities as well as no longer having self set breaks. It is a shame that this will be probably the last of lockdowns since our Premier has decided releasing people with 2,000 cases is a sensible thing to do. In conclusion I think being back at school is great, being able to enjoy things that during remote learning you couldn’t previously. I’ll definitely enjoy being back at school for the remaining weeks of this term. - Jamie E

The exciting news about students coming back to school came from the Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews’ mouth. All Victorian students were super happy to hear this news. These are the reasons why I am extremely excited to come back to school. Firstly, it will feel nice to finally get away from my siblings and spend some time with my friends. I have been overly annoyed with my brothers asking continuous question about his school work, so when I go to school hopefully that will all end. Also I have notice that the more my brothers are kept isolated the more they want to irritate me. When I go to school they stop irritating me. While learning from home I got heaps of distraction thrown at me, which did not help with my learning. I hope when I am at school I will have the perfect learning environment to learn. I am super excited to go back to avoid all the distractions that come to me while I am learning. During home schooling I was not active. I believe that when I come back to school I will be very active. I say this because when I go to play at recess I will be very energetic and be a lot more active. When I go back to school I am excited to be more active. In conclusion, I am super excited to go to school because I will meet my friends, finally work with less distractions and I get to be way more active. - Tania J

Our Dioramas

This term, the Year 5s’ are working on a diorama project for Inquiry. The objective of this project was to focus on our chosen animal’s adaptations in its natural ecosystem. First, everyone chose an animal to research. We looked at the animal’s natural habit, diet, weight, size, lifecycle, predators and average lifespan. We also looked at the special features our animals had to survive in their natural environment. We then chose an unfamiliar environment and listed the structural, behavioural and physiological adaptations our animal would need to survive in this new biome. Next, we planned how we would create our diorama.  Everyone acquired a cardboard box and collected their materials from outside, home and school to create their diorama, showing the animal in it’s natural and new habitats.
