Secondary Creative Artists

It has been wonderful to have the students back in the Art room this term! The students have created some wonderful pieces in their studio time. Have a look below at the talent that is at The Lakes 😊

Abstract Flowers

Year 10 artists were inspired by paintings by Georgia O-Keefe and used oil pastels to create their own versions. It was challenging to draw small objects at such a large scale. Students had to observe the main shapes and really zoom in to the flowers to draw them large. Cropping was an important element, as when parts of the flower are cut-off it makes the object more abstract or harder to decipher. Presenting their work on a coloured frame really sets off these gorgeous artworks!

Wonderous Watercolour

Students in 9 Art initially learnt a variety of watercolour painting techniques that they later applied to a resolved artwork. At this level, students need to show an understanding of choosing materials or techniques for a particular effect. For example, selecting watercolour techniques to create texture in the sky. Using fine-liners and white gel pens were a lovely way to add detail to their designs. Check out these galaxy landscapes!

Cubist Construction

Artists in year 7 had the challenge of working 3D! We looked at Cubism and Pablo Picasso for inspiration to consider how we could design a Cubist face by layering cardboard. The process had many steps; from planning a design with shapes, colours and angles, to creating paper stencils using a lightbox, then tracing these stencils onto cardboard and cutting them out, colouring all the individual pieces with oil pastel, and finally using a glue-gun to put the artwork together!
