PE expanding in '25

Futsal, frisbee, tennis, touch

This week we wrapped up our PE courses for 2024 and what a fantastic six weeks of sport we have had! Generally, we run all our units of work for a six-week period and this term certainly went quickly. As we grow as a school, the PE program evolves with our growth, adjusting programs to be rotated around the classes.

Year 8s have just finished their units of softball, basketball and soccer. All Year 7s have finished their tennis unit at Kings Park Tennis Club and it was great to hear all students scoring properly in the mixed doubles and doubles tournaments which finished these sessions!

Year 10s have enjoyed mingling for a three-class unit of ultimate frisbee at Supreme Court Gardens, where we saw four fields maximising the space down by the river.

Year 9s have also been on sport rotations with cricket, futsal and touch rugby. It has indeed been busy in Phys Ed this term.

Expanding in 2025!

Our PE Programs are expanding in 2025. Excitingly, we are adding an additional two members of staff to our HPE Teaching Team next year with Mr Adam Edwards and Miss Molly Raynor joining us. Mr Edwards loves to play cricket and AFL and Miss Raynor enjoys netball as her focus sport. I look forward to introducing them to you all to commence 2025.

Year 9s will be offered new electives of Sport Extension “SPEX” along with the on-going Outdoor Education program. Year 10 will see the introduction of Sports Science which is a great lead into our Apex and ATAR Physical Education Studies courses in Years 11 and 12. I look forward to seeing our Year 9 & 10 students choose these electives within the HPE Department as I can guarantee a lot of fun and time outside.

During the Festival of Learning (our final week of school) some of our Year 10 students will be involved in the P.A.R.T.Y Program in which they will visit Royal Perth Hospital to see the effects of trauma and risk taking associated with driving accidents. We will also have some of our basketballers participate in Rebound WA’s Wheelchair Basketball competition at Brookfield Place and Year 10s will also enjoy a Matilda Bay picnic and sausage sizzle.

With three weeks to go there remains lots of fun to be had!
