Year 9 & 10

Camp and exams

Gearing up for Year 9 Camp

Get ready to wrap up an amazing year with our much-anticipated Year 9 Camp! This is not just any camp – it is an action-packed adventure designed to bring out the best in each of our Year 9 students. They will be stepping out of their comfort zones, testing their limits and having a blast while doing so.

The lineup of activities includes raft-building, crate-climbing, kayaking and the high-flying “big fox” zip line. For those looking for something more strategic, there will be orienteering and catapult-building. And if students are up for a bigger challenge, the island bush walk and the “pamper pole” await. Each activity is carefully chosen to help students develop key skills such as leadership, teamwork and communication – things they will take home well beyond the campfire (cool conditions permitting!)

The camp is more than just fun and games – it is a chance to build resilience, grow self-confidence and foster new friendships. We want students to dive in, work together and create memories they will carry throughout high school.

So, students, don’t hold back! Embrace every challenge, cheer each other on, and remember that every step you take is strengthening the amazing Year 9 community we are building here at St George’s. This is your chance to shine, try new things, and end the year on a high note.

Mr C’s Year 10 exam tips

Now is the last big chance to boost marks before exams begin and the year wraps up. It is time to start prioritising each subject and get organised. The best way to prep? Work in short, focused sessions. Instead of trying to read everything, focus on revising your notes and jotting down key terminology. Try mixing it up with different study methods – such as using annotated diagrams to help visualise concepts.

Past papers are incredibly helpful when it comes to studying. They will give you a feel for the types of questions you will face and how topics might be assessed. Practice under timed conditions to get used to the exam setting – it is all about “practicing as you play”. Avoid checking the mark schemes until you are finished; it will help you learn more effectively.

When you are in the exam, remember – it is just a longer test. Start by reading through the whole paper, then answer the questions you are most confident about first. Keep an eye on the clock and save the trickier questions for the end.

Above all, give it your best – this is your moment to show how much you have grown! Talk with your teachers if you need any guidance, and good luck!
