The Laurence Library has transformed into a little slice of Christmas cheer – and we are loving it! We have decked the halls with a beautiful Christmas tree facing out towards the city – you might even spot it if you look up at the school at night! Sparkling fairy lights twinkle across the ceiling, while tinsel winds its way around the shelves, adding a festive touch to every corner.
A special shout-out goes to my fabulous PCG (Yay Gandhi 3!) and our Library Prefect, Fred, who gave up their mornings over the past week to help set everything up. None of this would have been possible without the tremendous effort of our wonderful Year 7 volunteers and the guidance of my fellow librarians, Ms Emily Belyea and Mrs Tamsin Sykiotis, who were instrumental in crafting decorations and leading the charge on this festive project.
Given that the school year wraps up soon, we decided it was only fitting to embrace the Christmas spirit a little early so we can enjoy a full month of holiday joy alongside everyone else. We have put together a special display featuring wintry reads, Christmas miracles, and all things cosy to get you in the holiday mood. Even the faces of our lovely St George’s staff are on display, sporting their best elf costumes on the window facing Level 2!
While in the decorating mood, we have also refreshed our special collection section, now labelled as the ‘Easy Reads’ area. It’s perfect for those looking for shorter novels, graphic novels, or something light for the holidays – ideal for reluctant readers or anyone in search of a quick and delightful escape.
We hope you enjoy the festive decorations and that they bring a little winter wonder to contrast the heat outside. Perhaps you’ll even take a bit of this cosy feeling home with a book to keep you company. Happy reading and Merry Christmas from all of us!
