Reflecting on the purpose of Remembrance Day each year is an important occasion for our School. Being in the heart of the city with the constant noise of city life surrounding us 24/7, the minute’s silence is a poignant reminder of those men and women who have served our country and fought to ensure that we continue to enjoy the many freedoms we enjoy here in Australia.
The 2025 Student Leaders stood proud in leading the Remembrance Day Service at St George’s Cathedral. It was a reflective and moving ceremony with our students standing as ambassadors of St George’s Anglican Grammar School, embodying the values of respect, honour and gratitude which lie at the heart of our school community. Sophie, Rory, Fred, Alison and Ben all spoke with grace and dignity at the service and all in attendance placed poppies outside of the cathedral to commemorate the fallen heroes of wars past and present. Their presence at the service was a powerful reminder of the role young leaders play in preserving the memory of our history and promoting a future built on peace and unity. As a school community, we honour the enormous sacrifices of the past and strive always to work together for a future marked by compassion, care, understanding and peace.
Ruben, Denny and Jarod carried with honour the Villers-Bretonneux Cross which is an exact replica of the original cross erected near to the spot where many Western Australians paid the supreme sacrifice. It was transferred to St George’s Cathedral in 1956. The cross commemorates the members of the 51st Battalion AIF who came predominantly from Western Australia and died in service or were killed in action during World War One.
This week has been a little quieter throughout the school with the Year 12s finishing their final WACE Examination and the Year 11s beginning their end of year examinations to conclude the school year. Year 10 Examinations are also now just around the corner. I wish all students commencing their final study for their upcoming examinations all the very best – whilst their examination results absolutely do not define them, they often open the doors for their next big steps and are an important part of their schooling journey. Good Luck everyone!
Susan McLean spoke candidly with parents about sexting, cyber safety and the online world in which our students operate. Those parents who attended the Term Four Parent Guest Speaker series on Wednesday night found her presentation extremely valuable and insightful in the ways in which she shared the need for parents to work together to protect their children online. Look out for the Parent Guest Speaker Series next year where we hope to bring you more great speakers to assist you in navigating the bumpy road of adolescence.
With the end of the year fast approaching, I remind all families of the expectation of all students to attend each day until the end of term on Friday, 6 December. We have some exciting events planned to conclude the 2024 school year as part of our ‘Festival of Learning Week’. Any absences of more than one day require my approval through communication with me via email on principal@stgeorges.wa.edu.au
On Wednesday 4 December at 6pm, Presentation Evening will take place as it always does at St George’s Cathedral. Given the late conclusion of Presentation Night and the encouragement we give as part of the evening for families to take the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the City of Perth Christmas Lights Show, this year we will start school later the following day.
Students are to arrive at school at recess ready to commence at Period 3 - on Thursday, 5 December - between 10.30am and 11am please.
Wishing you all a wonderful last few weeks of the 2024 academic school year – only three weeks to go!
Warmest wishes,

New chapter dawns in Anglican schooling
Our school is proudly part of the Anglican Schools Commission (ASC), which will soon be known as AngliSchools. With 16 schools in Australia, over 2,400 dedicated staff, and more than 16,600 students, the ASC has been a cornerstone of quality, inclusive Anglican education for 40 years.
Starting 6 January 2025, the new name represents a commitment to that legacy and prepares the ASC for future growth. Visit AngliSchools to learn more about this exciting new chapter.
