Maths

We have been investigating shapes and all of their properties. This is a unique maths unit, in that it has a lot of different and specialized vocabulary that we practice. We spent our time defining and categorizing various shapes into irregular or regular polygons, quadrilaterals, and parallelograms. Students did a shape hunt around their classrooms to find as many different shapes as they could. You could practice this at home or out in the shops to consolidate their vocabulary!

English

We have had a Geography lens, where we focused on the upcoming World Cup to frame an investigation into several countries. We did deep dives into Turkey, United States of America, and Paraguay, since they are the countries Australia is playing in the World Cup. In writing, we completed Top Trump cards for one of the three investigated countries, and our Grade 2s had to research and publish information in a nonfiction presentation. We did lots of readings and research, focussing on nonfiction text features and text types.

Wellbeing

Students looked at the importance of collaboration. They assigned roles within their team and created their dream playground. We have also had an assembly, as well as our Open Classrooms this past Friday. It was so amazing to see so many of our Year 2 families come and take part in the activities! The rooms were all buzzing with the excitement of the maths games (Bingo and Leap Frog)! We hope all the families enjoyed getting to see their child’s classroom and practicing their skip counting skills .
