Year 1 News

From Yolanda Andrews, Year 1A teacher
Watch out, theres a dinosaur on the loose....
What a fun few weeks we have had in Year 1! The land of the dinosaurs has been transformed by the sprouting of a magnificent tree. Colourful birds and other wildlife have also made their home on our level, bringing colour and life to the space.
Literacy
The students have been learning about the importance of the Indigenous connection to land and exploring the significance of Country and Place. They have incorporated Woi Wurrung vocabulary into their writing and had fun decoding each other’s work.
The students wrote letters to a special tree, focusing on letter structure and the types of information typically included in a letter. They also practised using correct punctuation and grammar to strengthen their writing.
Maths
The students have been practising their skip counting skills to count collections efficiently and accurately. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence, organised strategies, and developing understanding of arrays.
A big shout out to all the students for their continued hard work. We have been completing a range of assessments across the curriculum, and they have all done an amazing job.
It was also lovely to see so many families join us for our Open Classroom afternoon last Friday. Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to sharing more learning with you soon.
