Year 3 News

From Ahmed Al- Hameli, Year 3B teacher
Sizzling Starts
Students had an incredible time at Athletics Day, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork and determination they showed throughout the event. Whether students were sprinting, jumping, throwing or cheering on their classmates, it was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another and giving each activity their best effort.
A huge thank you to all of the parents and family members who came along to support the students on the day. Your encouragement and positivity helped make the event extra special.Â

Reading
Over the past few weeks in Reading, students have continued developing their fluency and expression by practising pace, rhythm, phrasing and reading with emotion. They have also been strengthening their comprehension and note-taking skills by identifying important information from texts and recording key facts in their own words.
Â
Writing
Students have been working hard on creating engaging travel brochures and persuasive pieces based on Australiaâs neighbouring countries. They explored how to create eye-catching brochure layouts, catchy slogans and persuasive advertisements to encourage tourists to visit different countries. Students also practised writing informative paragraphs using the TIDE structure, comparing countries using comparative language, and transforming their research notes into detailed writing pieces. We have also continued focusing on âSizzling Startsâ and descriptive vocabulary to hook readers into our writing.

Maths
Students have been learning about measurement, with a focus on length, perimeter and area. They have explored how to measure accurately using a range of units and tools, as well as how to calculate and compare the perimeter and area of different shapes. Students particularly enjoyed working collaboratively to problem-solve measurement challenges involving designing their own zoos and aquariums.

This week, students also took time to acknowledge National Sorry Day and reflect on the importance of healing, understanding and respect in Australia. Students created beautiful native hibiscus flower artworks to display around the classroom, each featuring words and messages that represent kindness, respect, reconciliation and hope for the future. It was wonderful to see the thoughtful discussions and care students showed during this learning experience.
We would also like to remind families that we will be holding a school assembly this week, and we warmly invite parents and carers to attend. We look forward to celebrating our studentsâ learning and achievements together!
