Higher, further, faster!
Molesworth Campus
First fast hands and now onto fast feet. That’s been the key ingredient change in the PE soup over the past fortnight. We’ve sprinkled in some robot-control and now our budding soccer stars are really cooking!
We’ve also realised that slow is fast and fast is slow; that slow control gets us there faster than a fast mess. So not only have we learnt about kicking, we’ve also learnt about philosophy; that we can take what we discover in the gym and apply it to the outside world.
Errol St
Athletics season rolls on up at Errol St. We’ve had some wet days pushing height limits on the High Jump mats and some dry days pushing further with our Shot Put putting - it’s quite incredible just how far some small bodies can push a 2kg metal ball through the air!
Year 3 and 4 Athletics Day
This past fortnight also gave our Year 3’s and 4’s the chance to get out there and push things to the limit at our Athletics Day. The weather was on our side and spirits were high. There were some incredible feats of effort and bravery across the disciplines of Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump, Hurdles and Sprints. But the big winner of the day and our core focus was FUN. Fun with classmates, fun with teachers, fun with the school community and the fun with the simple enjoyment of movement.
Translating Body Language
Here in the PE Dept we talk a lot about bodies. About positioning, about making shapes and about changing those shapes to become different positions. But sometimes we also talk about the hidden messages. The ones still written in body language that are harder to read: Someone else guessing how you are feeling can be harder than you guessing the emotions of others. Just because you feel a strong feeling, it doesn’t always mean it shows through. Sometimes what feels loud to us seems quiet to others. So remember; we often interpret body language when we look at someone else, but sometimes some of our own may be difficult to read.
