Budding Authors in our midst

By Benji, 6D

The past few weeks in reading, we have chosen a country and practiced skills like researching and note taking. Once we had chosen our country, we researched topics like people, geography, food, celebrations, wildlife, history, and sports. We then used note taking strategies to record the most important information. This reading unit has not only taught us fun facts about geography, but also valuable information about researching and note taking, which we can apply to the real world, and especially in high school.

In Writing we have been working on postcards template using C-SPACE. I used the point of view of an exchange student, like I am writing to someone back home. In the postcard we will also draw soon, when we publish. But right now the Year 6s are writing their draft and still doing some planning. By next week, we are going to be making little books called zines. These will have texts about our chosen countries that we have been researching.

Over the weeks, we’ve learnt how to find perimeters of a shape, the area of a shape, and areas of a triangle. The first one we just find the perimeter of a bunch of shapes. The second one was just finding the area of different quadrilaterals. But in the last one, we had to figure out the area of a triangle and creating our own triangles by following the information given to us. These are one of the many special subjects that we should value in our life.

Buddies

By Ned, 6D

So far Buddies have been a great experience this year. We have questioned our preps about their favourite book to create our own stories to read to them at the end of the term. I hope buddy experiences stay as well as they are now for the rest of and for coming years.

For the last four weeks we have been visiting buddies. It was really fun and cute since they were so tiny!!! On Wednesday, Matilda and I went to see Reiya our buddy. We then asked her some questions about her favourite book, drew a picture with her and read a story. We are going to use that information to make a picture story book for our buddy. Overall buddies was a fun and cute experience.

This week, we have done buddies since the start of this term, and what we have been doing is we are interviewing our buddies about what they like. After that questioning, we make a character with our preps with asking what the character would look like. Examples like a superhero, their favourite fictional character and so much more they could think of. It has been an awesome day having fun with our future students, drawing, interviewing and many more.
