Group 5

A Wonderful Semester of Stories and Learning!
Group 5 has had an exciting semester filled with stories, creativity, and new learning experiences. The themes of “I like…” and “Books and Characters” allowed us to explore many different stories together. This helped build the student’s listening, imagination and comprehension skills. Throughout the activities, students completed various writing tasks by using images to complete sentences. The students also made their own “This is me” books using photos of themselves in different school environments. Group 5 loved completing different arts and crafts projects. We made an ocean scene and “Rainbow Fish”, a brown bear for “We’re going on a Bear Hunt”, and our own “Pete the Cat”.
To help the students build literacy skills, we learned about core words and the alphabet. During term t, the students learned different core words to help them communicate to their teachers and peers. We learned “stop”, “want”, “more”, “help”, and “finished”. The stories engaged with different activities to help them use the words in real life situations. For example, we used a car ramp to use the words “stop” and “go”. During letter of the week, the students learned about a new letter by listening to songs, reading books, and completing different crafts. During the letter C week, we fed our classroom Cookie Monster and used our fine motor skills to craft our own cookie monsters. The students love creating word maps for each letter. We would glue different images that represent the letter on graphic organizers.
We are so proud of the progress everyone has made this term and are very excited to begin our new learning adventure next term with our theme, Feathers and Fur!
Have a great school holiday,
Emma and Renee
