Year Four News

Hello Year Four Families,
This week we have been hard at work beginning our new unit of inquiry - How the World Works. For our provocation students conducted an experiment and were required to record their observations and results throughout the day. We have followed this up by unpacking the Central Idea and listed our wonderings around the new unit of inquiry.
Literacy
In Reading, we have continued our work around non-fiction texts. This week we have focused on identifying the main idea of a text as well as using our prior knowledge to make inferences.
This week in writing The Year Fours have focused on building their writing stamina. This has been done through the use of a quick write where students have used writing prompts to promote creativity writing speed.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, The Year Fours have begun their work around a new concept, Time. New fluid groups have been arranged to address student point of need. The Year Fours will be working with their assigned teacher for the foreseeable future. Concepts covered in class so far have been:
-Convert between units of time.
-Using am and pm to solve time problems.
Grade Four Exhibition
On Tuesday the Grade Fours participated in an exhibition to showcase their understanding of the current Unit of Inquiry. Students came up with a question based on the theme of exploration. Students created posters, PowerPoints, quizzes, dioramas and information booklets, as a way to showcase their learning. All classes then had the opportunity to visit each other and observe the fantastic work that was put into these presentations.
Reminders:
- Camp - Please continue to bring back the camp medical forms. If you require an extra one please contact your child's classroom teacher.
- Students are required to bring a hat to school everyday - No Hat, No Play.
- Please ensure students are bringing fully charged laptops school daily.
