Year Three News

Hello Year Three Families,

How quick the year has gone! Can you believe we are already at the end of Week 4 of Term 4? Our students have shown outstanding behaviour over the past two weeks and all the Year Three teachers have been so proud of their outstanding behaviour and achievements with their learning.  Here is a snapshot update from Week 4 of Term 4.

Reading

We have continued our Mem Fox author study this week and have enjoyed reading through several different Mem Fox texts.

The Year Threes have been focusing on making connections with texts, to themselves and to other texts that we read. This is a great skill that helps children make sense of what they are reading and seek connections from life-like characters and situations.

Writing

After finishing off procedure text writing last week, we have been enjoying revisiting some of our favourite writing text types from earlier on in the year. Students have had opportunities to get creative with narrative writing and poetry writing activities. We have continued to use our Writer's Notebooks to jot down and plan our writing ideas.

Mathematics

We have almost completed our focus on measurement which includes Length, Mass, Volume and Capacity. Students have been practising their conversion skills, converting between millilitres to litres, grams to kilograms as well as millimetres to centimetres to metres. We have also been using real life equipment to explore how important measurement can be. Fluid groups continue to run and allow students to extend their learning based off their own individual learning needs.

Inquiry

This week we finished investigating the six different types of simple machines. Students have enjoyed the hands on activities of building their own examples of simple machines and seeing how they function. We also had a fun time planning and creating a Rube Goldberg machine in our classrooms. This is also known as a chain reaction machine. Next week, students will be designing a tool that will be useful or helpful to another person. We will then create it using recyclable materials brought into the classroom.

  • Please send in any recyclable materials that you can so the students have plenty of resources to use when building their simple machine tools
  • ICT agreements need to be signed by each student and a family member. These are a requirement for students to use school internet and devices, including their own device for school.
