MakeCode Blocks in Minecraft

This week we have been investigating the role of coding in Minecraft. Students have explored ways to automate building. In class, they have been coding instructions for an agent to carry out on their behalf. This builds on previous learning in Scratch to apply coding logic using a visual programming language. Using MakeCode blocks and loops, repetitive tasks can be automated to be completed at high speed with great accuracy.

Minecraft Building Challenge

Working collaboratively, students have designed and built their own three dimensional structures and systems in Minecraft. As they practise co-operation and team work, students are introduced to mathematical concepts such as co-ordinate systems in three dimensions.

Students displayed their building skills as they created a range of structures including towers, rail systems, haunted mansions, a scary graveyard and a jack-o-lantern shaped tree house.

Victorian Coding Challenge: Stage 2 Competition

The inter-school competition phase of the Victorian Coding Challenge is just around the corner! In a couple of weeks, two teams of Year Six students will demonstrate their coding, collaboration, and problem solving skills, as they compete against teams from around the state. We wish them well on competition day and can't wait to hear all about their experiences!
