Year Two News

Written by the Year Two Team

Hello Year Two Families,

We hope you have enjoyed hearing all about our learning that has occurred so far in Term Four.

In Reading, we have started to look at texts and reading strategies to prepare the Year Two cohort for Naplan type texts. The students have explored summarising and the strategies we use to complete a summary of a text they have read. We explored the celebration of Halloween through reading and the students completed a summary based on a celebration that they celebrate with their families.

In Writing, we have continued exploring Narratives and focusing on the text structure. The students have enhanced their knowledge of Orientation, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action and Resolution. Children have been exploring how to enhance their descriptions of the setting within their stories. They have explored the importance of using rich adjectives to really enhance the audience’s ability to visualise the story.

In Numeracy, students have begun working on division. The Year Two’s were extremely excited to begin their next round of fluid groups and exploring division with a range of other students.  This week, during fluid groups, the students have been exposed to sharing, solving simple division problems, investigations into multiples and more. I encourage you to discuss with your child their fluid groups and what they are exploring.

In Inquiry, the students explored our second line of Inquiry, ‘The purpose of celebrations and traditions.’ The students had an in-depth discussion about what a celebration is and Salv from 2D explained it as  "Something that brings people together."

We have enjoyed seeing the passion and love the students are displaying for their cultural celebrations and traditions. The students spent time exploring the purpose of celebrations and commemorations. A commemoration is the coming together to remember a person or event.

Special Congratulations

In our last newsletter, we mentioned that Rheyansh from 2H was travelling to Bali to compete in the Asian Youth Chess Championships. We are pleased to inform you that Rheyansh came 1st and received the gold medal in the Under 8 category. A huge congratulations and well done to Rheyansh! This is an outstanding achievement that displays your efforts and determination to be the best you can be. We absolutely love seeing and hearing about our students succeeding in their interests and hobbies outside of school.
