2021 EvattSA Competition

In spite of complications presented by COVID-19 conditions, two teams of Reuben Visser and Georgia Warren and Ashwin Murugappa and Sinchi Faith competed in the 2021 Evatt SA competition - South Australia's round of Australia's premier high school Youth Diplomacy Initiative conducted by UNYouth Organisation, with over 2000 students competing in rounds in every State and Territory across Australia.

In this competition, students in years 9 to 12, from many state, independent and Catholic schools, form teams of two, and are allocated the identity, and undertake to represent, one of the Member States of the United Nations Security Council in a mock session and debate of the Council.

They participate in rigorous and sophisticated debate on real-life, challenging issues and resolutions, that confront Nations and Diplomats in our contemporary world.

Congratulations to Reuben and Georgia who won through to contest the semi-finals of the State Rounds of the Competition. They were then selected among the chosen few to contest the State Finals. Although they did not succeed in becoming one of the two teams progressing to the National Finals, we congratulate them on the political insights and negotiation skills they brought to the many complex issues brought forward for ‘resolution’.
