YEAR 10 STUDENTS VISIT UNI SA PLANETARIUM

Student Brooke Watson

On 30 August Science classes 1001 and 1002 visited the Mawson Lakes campus of the University of South Australia which is primarily for the study of STEM industries and pathways.

Whilst we were there we participated in a tour of the grounds, highlighting the advanced technologies and opportunities available to students at the university. During this tour we were able to see students in action, a record breaking bike and experience a lecture theatre where we were informed of the format and learning procedures at university, which differ greatly from that of high school.

We also enjoyed a full experience of the planetarium. This included a virtual tour of the night sky from our perspective on earth at both a polluted state (similar to that of Adelaide) and also from a perspective where light doesn’t hinder the view and brightness of the stars. To conclude the in-depth explanation of the stars, and constellations by extension, we watched a movie about the amazing universe in all of its entirety. A truly informative experience as a whole.
