STAGE 1 BUSINESS INNOVATION

 – BUSINESS PITCHES

Kathryn Lamb (IGNITE Leader)

Earlier in their course, Stage 1 Business Innovation students toured various Adelaide Hills small businesses. They were then challenged to create an innovative concept to address an issue identified at one of the businesses visited.  To do this, students worked collaboratively using the Design Thinking Process.  This approach emphasises the importance of understanding your user and their needs.  Most groups focused on Melba’s Chocolate Factory and impressed with their creative ideas. These included an accessible café, a family festival, an environmentally-friendly ‘pick and mix’ station and vintage-style children’s parties.

For their final assessment task, students designed an advert and then pitched their concept to a panel.  The panel, which was made up of Fran Charlton, Lee Pope, Karen Linsner and Brendan Rose, APHS parent and Chief Operating Office at BLACKBIRDIT, asked each group several questions and provided feedback.  This was an authentic experience for students who, whilst finding it challenging, all delivered effective and professional business pitches.

Congratulations to the students and thank you to the panel members for providing this opportunity.
