Student Leadership
Student Representative Council
The SRC has had a busy first Term! We kicked off the year with our annual Training Day in which we voted for our Executive Council and brainstormed ideas for this year’s school projects. We would like to congratulate our newly elected Executive Branch Representatives:
President: Nina Boyce
Jr Vice Presidents: Zahra Blake and Milly Foley
Secretary: Sabrina Lee
Treasurer: Owen Li
Promotions Managers: Ryan Xia and Mary Zhong
This year, we are working in three action teams to manage our budget and projects. We have a School Garden team, a School Radio team, and a Fundraising team. In support of International Women’s Day and Harmony Week, we worked with Ms Grant to sell beautifully made wristbands to raise money for the AIIW Charity (Australians Investing In Women). We have also been very busy this term planning our new Zooper-Dooper refreshments stall for the Cross Country Carnival! This is our first fundraising event of the year and it is always a fun way to support the House Carnivals.
Introducing our 2021 Prefects
Harmony Week
Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. To celebrate, Box Hill High School started each day with a Compass post featuring a staff profile, an international greeting, and a fun fact about Australian diversity. The Year 11 Leaders helped us get into the spirit of things by distributing orange ribbons at lunch to raise awareness of the importance of community, tolerance, and cultural identity. We also featured the popular Japanese anime, Spirited Away at lunch to the delight of many student and staff fans. Thank you to everyone who got involved and made it a special week!
House Activities
It’s been fantastic to have everyone back together at school this year and the excitement was on full display at the annual Swim Carnival! Students donned their house colours proudly and enjoyed the beautiful weather poolside. Congratulations to the 2021 Swim Carnival champions, Blue House!
Here were this year’s scores:
Blue House: 396
Red House: 353
Green House: 214
Yellow House: 205
We continued our celebration of all things sport with a Teacher vs Student basketball tournament in Week 9. This tournament pitted Red House vs Green House, and Blue House vs Yellow House, followed by the Teacher vs Student exhibition matches. The first match was a true nail-biter! The teachers were up by six points at the start, but the determined students never gave up and made an incredible come-back to win the match with a stunning 3-pointer right at the buzzer! But this humiliation only fueled the teacher team’s drive, as they dominated in the second match to defeat the student team 11-6! Well done to everyone who played, the talent on display from both teachers and students was impressive!
