Arts Domain Term 1
For 2021, our Year 9 students had the opportunity to select Design Tech as one of their electives for the first time. With Design Tech, students seek to improve quality of life through the design of creative, innovative and sustainable products. Students Identify a real need, problem or opportunity. This could be a personal, local or global need.
Students also consider the economic, environmental and social impacts and how technologies may contribute to a sustainable future. They explore a range of traditional, contemporary and emerging materials.
Much of the above will happen in Term Two, when students undertake an individual project followed by an extended collaboration project.
The focus for Term One has been developing skills in using a range of materials, while exploring aspects such as prototyping and sustainability. Included in this page are a number of photos that demonstrate what our Year 9 Design Tech students have been up to.
I want to acknowledge the efforts Mr Chew, Ms Pearson and Mr Ouchtomsky for helping to make the first term such a success. Mr Ouchtomsky covered classes for Mr Chew for the first five weeks, while Mr Chew was on Paternity Leave.
Here are a few comments from our current students.
I have enjoyed doing hands-on work and learning about various techniques used.
I have enjoyed thinking about things very creatively.
I’ve enjoyed making and prototyping things.
Design Tech has been my favourite elective as there is a lot of freedom and it is a lot of fun making things.
We look forward to seeing what they produce in term two.
In other Arts Domain news, I want to congratulate our 2021 Arts Captains.
Music Captains: Kate Pengelly, Stafford Lee and Hayden Taylor.
