Embracing equity

International Women's Day

Earlier this term, fellow members of the Student Representative Council and I were given the chance to work alongside our incredible staff and members of the Cecil Hills community to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Participating in International Women’s Day at our school was an amazing opportunity to gather and celebrate strong women within the Cecil Hills High school community and reflect on women’s achievements worldwide.

We also had the privilege of hearing from a very special guest in Yvette Kinkade who is the Treasurer for the National Council of Women Australia. Yvette is also a life coach, author, and an accomplished motorsports competitor.  I think I speak for the rest of the Year 12 girls when I say I enjoyed learning all about her journey and hearing all the advice she so generously shared with us.

This year's theme of "#EmbracingEquity" was a commitment to shaping a world in which each and every woman can reach their full potential.

As a young woman, it meant a lot to be able to be a part of these inclusive events and the promotion of a future free of bias and discrimination. Celebrations like these at our school that contributes to the call to action for accelerating our journey towards a world where there is true equity for all women.

A massive thank you goes to everyone who made this wonderful event possible - especially to our Community Engagement team, Ms. Carter, our Year 12 Advisers, our SRC Coordinators, and our Head Teachers for Wellbeing.

We also thank the VET Hospitality Team for providing us with a wonderful breakfast.
