An action-packed Term One

A wonderful afternoon!

Thank you to our fabulous SRC Coordinators, Miss Tiary and Miss Kamil, our Head Teacher Wellbeing Mr Floriano, our Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects for providing an amazing afternoon tea for several prefects across South Western Sydney. The afternoon tea was extremely well delivered, highly organised and students spent the afternoon playing games, engaged in challenges, sharing ideas and enjoying each other’s company. What a great way to network with other leaders across a variety of schools in our local area.

The High Schools that took part in the event were Cecil, Bonnyrigg, Ashcroft, Fairfield, Westfield Sports, Busby, St John’s Park, Liverpool Boys, Liverpool Girls and Sefton.

Our prefects have been working hard across a range of initiatives and should be commended for their continuous commitment to our school and their efforts.

Congratulations to our new Aboriginal Education Coordinator

I am very excited to announce that our new Aboriginal Coordinator is Mr Clough. Mr Clough comes with a wealth of experiences and skills in this area, and we are so happy that he will fulfil this role.

We would like to thank Miss Kulevski for her amazing commitment to this role over the years and thank her in advance for the dedication and support she has offered to our Aboriginal students. The Aboriginal Education Coordinator role is responsible for mentoring and supporting Aboriginal students through our Yarn connect program, liaising with families with regard to personalised learning pathways and overall progress, coordinating with the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) manager for visits to Western Sydney University and tutoring and accompanying Aboriginal students to AIME days.

All staff are looking forward to the Term 2 2023 Staff Development Day which will focus on promoting equity for young Indigenous Australians and will be centred on Aboriginal Education.

A rewarding walk around our fabulous school!

It is always rewarding to visit classrooms and see highly engaged students and staff working collaboratively. Here are some snap shots of our Year 11 Food technology students experimenting with vegetables, our year 8 students working hard in Physical Education classes to complete an exciting challenge running around the school and our Year 7 students actively involved in a basketball game and physical activity. Thank you to our teachers that are working hard to provide creative and stimulating lessons for our students across a range of areas.

How parents and carers can play an important role in motivating their children to learn and study.

Here are some tips:

  1. Set expectations and goals: Talk to your child about their academic goals and encourage them to set realistic expectations. Help them create a study schedule and stick to it.
  2. Create a conducive environment: Provide a quiet and comfortable space for your child to study, free from distractions like TV or mobile phones. Make sure they have all the necessary resources and supplies, such as textbooks, laptops and stationery.
  3. Encourage self-discipline and responsibility: Help your child develop self-discipline and take responsibility for their own learning. Encourage them to prioritise their studies and manage their time effectively.
  4. Celebrate successes: Celebrate your child's successes, no matter how small. Acknowledge their hard work and efforts and encourage them to keep going.
  5. Provide support and resources: Offer your child support and resources such as attending Connect after the bell, visiting their teachers for support at recess or lunchtime, tutoring, study groups, or educational apps that can help them learn and stay motivated.
  6. Stay involved: Stay involved in your child's education by attending parent-teacher afternoons and staying informed about their academic progress. Offer support and guidance whenever needed.
  7. Talk your child’s Year Adviser via email or call the school. Our partnership is pivotal to supporting your child to grow emotionally and academically.

Support Unit Assembly - What a joy!

I had the pleasure of attending the Support Unit Harmony Day assembly last Friday. It was wonderful to see the students interacting and very engaged by Mr Floresca’s presentation.

Students explored diversity and the importance of appreciating each other’s differences. I even had the opportunity to watch Kassem dance and Aaron sing. They were such a joy to watch, and the audience was very engaged. Students that participated in our recent Athletics Carnival were also rewarded for their fine efforts. The assembly certainly fostered our core values of being respectful, responsible, and successful. I look forward to attending another a Support unit assembly very soon!
