Work placement at OfficeWorks

My name is Katie Castaings and I am currently in Year 12 studying VET Business Services.
Last week, as part of my work placement I went to OfficeWorks, Casula and successfully completed 40 hours of work.
I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The skills I developed included how to put through A1, A2 and A0 plans to print as well as how to photocopy, scan and laminate. I also had the opportunity to practice my skills on how to use a binding machine, how to professionally greet customers and how to deal with customers who had a complaint about a product. During this placement I received positive feedback from a customer who went out of their way to notify my store manager and I ended up being offered a part-time job.
The reason why I enjoy VET Business Services is not only because I will receive a Certificate III in Business, but also because you learn general skills that you need to be successful in any workplace. For example, I learnt how to be safe in an office, how to be sustainable, how to think critically, how to effectively work with colleagues and customers, and how to have a good work-life balance.
