Glen Eira College qualifies to play in the Chess Victoria State Finals

On Thursday 10th March, a Chess Victoria Secondary Interschool tournament was held at Glen Eira College. Four Glen Eira College teams participated in this event, in which the College competed against teams from five other schools. 

 

By the end of the tournament, the top performing Glen Eira College team had finished equal fourth out of thirteen competing teams, level on points with the top performing team from Scotch College and only 2.5 points behind the second placed team from Melbourne High School. Thanks to this outstanding performance, Glen Eira College has qualified to participate in the Chess Victoria Secondary Open State Finals, which will be held later this year.

 

Congratulations to all the Glen Eira College students who participated in this event. A special congratulations is due to Randheer Thogata in Year 7 who was the fifth best performing player in the tournament achieving an outstanding 5 wins and a draw from his 7 games. Pierre Maziarz in Year 10 also played excellently, winning 5 of his 7 games and finishing as the sixth best performing player in the event.
