Senior School News

As we reach the end of term 1 we would like to remind all Senior School students that it is important to make sure they take a break over the holidays, but also use the time to organise themselves for the beginning of term 2. Term 2 is a busy time in the senior school building towards exams at the end of term. It is really important for students be up to date when we return from the break.

We have had a number of students isolating at various points during term 1 and this has made it a little difficult to complete all SACs. It is likely that there will be times when students are making up SACs that they have missed due to absence, if those students are also sitting redemptions for SACs they have not passed the term will be quite busy and difficult. It is important that students see their Year Level Coordinator if they are having trouble keeping up to date.

We have been able to gain access for a study skills and exam preparation program run by the Skyline Foundation called Hatch. This program includes VCE Hack sessions, a SAC prep masterclass, and some exam prep sessions as well as weekly online tutoring sessions. Each session is run by experienced tutors and we encourage students to utilise this program. In recognition of the difficulty in completing Year 12 after 2 years of interrupted learning, the school has covered the cost of this program for Year 12 students.

We wish all students and their families a great break and look forward to seeing you next term.

WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY – HEAVILY SUBSIDISED CAMP TERM 2 - WEEK 3

Through the Government Positive Start Initiative, Glen Eira College has successfully secured dates for an additional Year 10 Camp to run for 5 days this year from the 9th-13th May 2022. Given that this cohort of students has missed out on a camp two years in a row this is a great opportunity to take part in this heavily subsidised school activity.  The camp is designed to re-engage students and boost their physical and emotional health and wellbeing in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The venue will be The Summit Outdoor Adventure Park, 21 Cemetery Rd, Trafalgar East VIC 3824. The Summit Outdoor Adventure Park is an accredited camp and is the ultimate school camp location.

It is a Multi-award winning venue located on 50 acres, just 90 minutes from Melbourne with a primary focus on providing inspiring and life changing experiences through a combination of meaningful programs and powerful activities that build self- worth, success and happiness.

All activities are guided by experienced and friendly staff with each student encouraged to try different types of activities to enhance growth and learning. Programs are based on experiential learning which contributes to the school’s curriculum and engages the students in educational activities, workshops and initiatives.

Please log on to the XUNO Parent Portal to give permission for your child to attend.  https://gec.xuno.com.au/index.php

To confirm your child’s place on camp, please:

• Give your child permission to participate

• Return a completed Medical Information Form/ Dietary Requirements (this is available on XUNO)

• Complete the Medical Authority Form ( only if your child is taking medication on camp)

The full cost of the camp is $890. While the Positive start program covers the cost of the campsite, accommodation, most meals and activities to the value of $870, there will be a cost incurred by parents for incidentals. This means that there will be a request to PAY ONLY $20 for this 5 day camp.  If your child has CSEF funding available or credit in their account, this has already been applied on XUNO.

We need to provide The Summit Outdoor Adventure Park with final numbers by 7th April. Therefore, can you please provide consent on XUNO before the date indicated above to secure your child’s place at the camp. Places will be limited and our timeline is very short, so attendance will be on a first come first served basis.

If you have any questions, please email myself or Meagan Garnham (Camp Coordinator) via Xuno with any queries.
