Monash Tech STEAM Online Courses

Glen Eira College has been offered an opportunity by Monash Tech School to trial their new STEAM digital courses online with our Year 7 to 9 students.  The purpose of the course they have developed is to support students to explore new industry sectors, connect them to different jobs of the future, and inspire them to engage with STEM-rich subjects and pathways.

The range of modules students could select from are:

  • Aerospace Regulator
  • Automation Anomaly Analyst
  • Biomimicry Innovator
  • Bioprinting Engineer
  • Cyborg Psychologist
  • Decision Support Worker
  • De-Extinction Geneticist
  • Entomicrobiotech Cleaner
  • Flood Control Engineer
  • Gamification Designer
  • Offworld Habitat Designer
  • Weather Control Engineer

It has been a great opportunity for students to be able to experience a variety of careers and we would like to thank Monash Tech School and Ms Heather Palm (Careers Coordinator) for helping to organise this opportunity for us.

Science Talent Search

The Science Teacher Association of Victoria (STAV) has just announced details about this year’s competition. The 2022 Science Talent Search theme is: “Glass more than meets the eye”. This theme can be addressed in the area of creative writing which needs to cover one of the following topics:

 1. Glass! Exclaimed the environmental scientist

2. My glass is bioactive

3. The microbes ate the glass

4. My glasses are so polarising

The other areas that can be covered during the Science Talent Search are computer programming, videos, poster, modelling, scientific wall charts and experimental investigation and these can investigate any science theme that a student elects to investigate. If students would like to enter the competition, then there is an entry fee required.

I will be organising a meeting with students interested in doing this competition (the information in regard to this meeting will be on the student bulletin) in the last week of school for Term 1 and another meeting in the first week of Term 2.  If students cannot attend these meetings they can email me directly on Xuno.
