Year 11 Legal Studies – Virtual VCE Event – Judge for Yourself
On Friday 25th March 2022 the Year 11 Legal Studies class participated in the County Court’s virtual VCE event with Judge Todd. The focus of the incursion was to outline the process of sentencing. At the start Judge Todd explained the process of sentencing including negotiations and sentence indications. She also described the sentencing options and objectives of sentencing.
The second part of the incursion was more interactive. Judge Todd presented a scenario based on a real case regarding dangerous driving causing death. Students considered various sentencing objectives and options to make a sentencing decision taking into account the impact of this crime on the victim, offender and the community.
By undertaking this process students were able to appreciate the complexities of sentencing.
Thank you to Judge Todd for providing our Year 11 students with such a wonderful opportunity.
