Year 7 Survival Guide

Going from primary school to high school was a big change in all ways. You get so much more responsibility, change classes every session, and have new subjects and teachers. All of it can be hard, and sometimes frustrating, and you have more work now, but there are still a lot of good parts. We’re at the end of Term 2, and we want to highlight some of the best parts of school so far.
Camp was a fun, exciting, and challenging experience. We were pushed out of our comfort zones while making new friends and doing lots of fun activities. We learnt all kinds of things, from how to cook a pancake over a tiny fire (or a BBQ for some of us) to learning how to make semi-safe rafts. We were pushed out of our comfort zones on the giant swing and zipline. We learnt teamwork on the team rescue course. All in all, it was amazing, and I hope to go on more amazing camps.
The sports carnival was really cool for all the students who participated. They got to compete in activities that, for a lot of people, really challenged them and support the other people in their houses. Another thing that really brought out the silly side in people was the chance to dress up. There were some amazing costumes, including a blueberry, Homer Simpson, and Thing 1 and Thing 2.
Clubs and the production have created a great outlet for students to show their interests. In Year 7, starting high school can be challenging, but joining clubs can help you meet new people with similar interests to you. In debate, we’ve learned public speaking skills and have had several chances to join different competitions to flaunt our newfound talents. But if debate isn't for you, you could try the school production.
The school production is honestly the best thing ever. Being in Year 7 is scary, especially coming to a big new school where you don't know anyone. But doing the production completely changes that. You end up in the theatre laughing with Year 10s and getting help from the Year 12s, who actually treat you like a normal friend. Since everyone is working on the same sort of thing, you make heaps of friends really fast. It totally boosts your confidence and makes the whole school feel way better.
Thank you for reading. We’re all excited to see what the rest of high school holds for us.
Your Year 7 captains, Ivy, Thomas, Sofia, and Archie.
