Farewell to Our Study Abroad Students

This term, we say goodbye to four of our Study Abroad students who have completed their semester at Northcote High School — Ole (Germany), Yael (Switzerland), Jule (Germany), and Cosima (Austria).

During their time at NHS, they’ve thrown themselves into school life, made new friendships, and experienced many new things. Spending time with friends has been one of their favourite parts of school life, and they always looked forward to recess breaks and school activities.

A major highlight for all of them was the opportunity to meet new people and feel part of a welcoming community. They shared how quickly they felt included here at NHS, thanks to the support from both students and teachers.

Along the way, they’ve also grown in confidence, independence, and English skills, and for some, even discovered new interests that might shape their future studies. At our Uni Expo event, they were very keen to explore opportunities to perhaps one day return to Australia in the tertiary sector.

We asked our students about their favourite memories, here’s what they said:

“That is hard to tell, because I really enjoyed being here. But I think my favourite memories are from recess.”

“My favourite memory is spending time with my classmates, especially during breaks and school activities. Everyone was very friendly, and I felt welcome from the beginning.”

“It is hard to name one specific favourite moment at NHS. My favourite memories are all the everyday moments I shared with my friends at school.”

“The community. Everyone is very nice and super supportive.”

To celebrate their time here, we held a small farewell where each student received a Certificate of Completion, along with an NHS drink bottle and pin to remember their time at NHS.

We wish them all the very best as they head home. We hope they take lots of great memories with them!

What’s Been Happening

It’s been a busy term in the International Student Program. We enjoyed celebrating our students with May and June birthdays at a special birthday lunch.

We also held our term student assembly, providing important information about subject changes, subject selection, and the VTAC timeline, helping Year 12 students plan ahead for their next steps and supporting Year 10–11 students as they begin shaping their subject selections for 2027.

We are very grateful for the support of our Student Services Team during this time, in particular Ms Jane and Ms Booma.
