VCE DRAMA Students – Ensemble Performances

Performance 1 – Year 11 – ‘The Wild West’

In drama, the year elevens worked together to create and perform a western story with the theme "heroes".  We worked collectively to write and develop the story and rehearsed during class time and after school to create a performance we were proud of. When the time came to perform, the group was full of nerves and excitement. All in all, we were proud of our selves for the effort we put in, and there were some pretty memorable improv moments when things didn't go according to plan.

Performance 1 - Year 12 – ‘So You Think You’re a Hero’

On May 20th the VCE drama students presented our ensemble performances. We had been writing and rehearsing our performances for months, based off of the theme of "heroes." The different groups brought super diverse interpretations of this theme, from cowboy westerns to political elections to reality TV. It was awesome to show off all of our hard work to our friends and family.

Performance 2 – Year 12 - ‘[Title] Redacted’

Over the past term, the VCE Drama students got to create and perform our amazing ensemble pieces based on the stimulus we were given of “Heroes”. With amazing guidance from Miss Bastian, my group developed an ensemble that explored what a REAL hero is, through characters like the paramedic, Mal and the mother, who were depicted rising above their obstacles and dealing with real world traumas. Throughout the devising and improvisation process we developed characters like Trump and Superstein, which we created to highlight the flaws in American politics and to make our audience question the concepts of heroism. Some of the most fun classes we had us crawling around the floor as animals that portrayed our characters, which allowed us to develop our grotesque, humorous and unique character gestures. For our final ensemble performance for VCE Drama, my group fully committed to our out-of-this-world, over the top characters and enjoyed every minute of it on stage. We can only thank the wonderful teachings we have been given and our peers for the collaboration and friendships we made throughout the performance process.
