Year 9 & 10 Volleyball

Year 9-10 Volleyball Victoria Schools Cup
On Tuesday 26th – Thursday 28th May, we had our Year 9 and 10 NHS Volleyball teams represent the school at the first Volleyball Victoria Schools Cup for this year. The 3-day tournament brings some of the strongest school volleyball teams from around the state to compete.
The Year 9-10 Boys team entered with a mere 6 players, but they competed incredibly well in what was a very strong division 2 competition. For a few of our students, it was their first time playing a competitive volleyball match, and the growth they showed over the 3 days was very impressive. A special shoutout to Jack D for some fantastic on-court leadership, and a special thank you to coaches Hugh P and Xander I.
The Year 10 Girls team competed in division 1, facing some incredibly talented players. In their first competitive matches for the year, the team produced some dominant performances to give themselves a great opportunity to compete for a medal. The team managed to find themselves in a Bronze-medal match, however, just came up short against a great Tintern Grammar team. This was a great start to what will be an exciting year for this group!
The Year 9 Girls B team got thrown into the deep-end this tournament, being entered into division 1 for the first time! With quite a few new players, our students showed fantastic positivity during the week and developed some great skills. Managing to get a few wins across the 3 days, the team should be extremely proud of their efforts and feel confident going into their next tournament in term 3. Special shout-out to Bijou B, a standout performer across the week.
Last, but certainly not least, our Year 9 Girls A team! Also competing in division 1, these seasoned professionals were dominant from their first game! Through fantastic teamwork and skills, they gave themselves a great opportunity to compete for medals on the last day. After a narrow defeat to the eventual Gold medalists, Tintern Grammar, our students competed for Bronze against McKinnon Secondary College. The energy and efforts were very impressive, with Alice R securing the victory with several strong serves to close out the 2-0 win. And another shoutout to Darani S, the team’s Libero. Playing almost every point across the 3 days, Darani was a standout receiver for the team. For a team who have usually competed in division 2, a Bronze medal in division 1 is a huge achievement! Thank you to coaches Sienna W, Miko F and Hazel L for giving up their time to support these teams!
