CDS Collection Drive – Donate Cans/Bottles Now!

By Ms Rebecca Kertes, Sustainability Leader

For the entirety of Term 3, Sustainability Club will be collecting cans/bottles/any eligible containers to be returned and recycled through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme. Our aim is to reduce the volume of recyclable materials that go to landfill, while also raising funds for future Sustainability Club initiatives. Our fundraising goal for the term is $300, and each can earns us 10 cents which means we need 3,000 cans/bottles - this is where you all come in!

We are asking students/families to bring in any eligible containers from home, or that they are consuming while at school, and place them in the bins at their relevant sub-school office. Make sure to let the staff know so they can record your name, as every can/bottle returned earns you one entry into the raffle. We are working on some amazing prizes for the winners, which will be drawn on the last day of Term 3.

If you’re not sure what is/isn’t eligible, just check for the 10c mark or visit the CDS website for more information - https://cdsvic.org.au/

Spotlight on a local business – Bar Nearby

The lovely folks at Bar Nearby, a small family-owned and run boutique cocktail/wine bar on Whitehorse Road just down from the school, have very generously offered to donate ALL their empty cans and bottles to us for this drive until the end of Term 3.

James and Ella, the owners, are locals to Box Hill who are keen to strengthen community ties and were thrilled at the opportunity to support the Sustainability Club’s initiative and help us reach our goal.
