A celebration of wonder
by Mr James Taylor, Arts Domain Leader
As I have said many times before, the students here at Box Hill High School are incredibly talented, as was clearly seen during the 2025 Arts Week in week 2 of Term 3. During this week, the work of our Media, Drama and Visual Arts students was on full display. A performance by our VCE Music students had to be postponed until later in the year.
The usual experience is that our students spend some weeks preparing creative expressions that are seen by their teachers and maybe the class. However, during Arts Week the work is seen by potentially hundreds of others.
As the Arts Domain Leader and one of the school photographers, I had the privilege of attending all of the Arts Week activities. Here is what I got to experience.
Tuesday lunchtime: a great number of students participated in a range of Drama roleplay activities in H1. Well done to Ms Longden for organising this. It did feel at times very much like a production reunion.
Also on Tuesday, the Visual Arts Exhibition opened. The back of the hall was set up as a temporary gallery to display the artworks by Years 7 to 11 Art, 3D Art, VCD, Photography and Design Tech students. As the images with this article show, there was a wide range of visual expressions.
It was great to see so many students come and visit the show, as well as friends and families, on Tuesday after school until 5:00pm.
Well done to all the students whose work was selected for display. If only we had a bigger space, even more students’ work would have been included.
My thanks to my fellow Art and Design teachers for their hard work in putting the show up and packing it down in such a short time: Ms Nevard, Ms Gyarmathy, Ms Lockhart, Ms Bellamy, Ms Collins, Mr Davies and Mr Danes.
Friday lunchtime: room 117 was full to overflowing with students who had come to see a screening of Years 10 and 11 Media products. Thanks to Mr. Wilkin for organising this, and well done to all the clever students whose work was shown.
The gallery of images attached to this page visually demonstrates some of the fun from the whole week. Here are just a few more (so many wonderful artworks!):
We look forward to the VCE Exhibition later this year, when we get to showcase the talents of our Units 3 and 4 Art Making and Exhibiting, VCD and Media students.
Thanks to Ms Ind and the senior leadership team for your support to the Visual and Performing Arts. Thanks also to the Visual Arts captains: Olivia, Taeisha and Zoe. We really appreciate all your help this week and during the year so far.
Thanks again to my hardworking Arts team for all your efforts in the weeks leading up to, and including, Arts Week. Our students are privileged to have you as their teachers.
