Grade 5 News

Welcome to Week 6, we are already halfway through Term 1!

It was fantastic to meet so many of you at our Meet and Greet interviews last week. These meetings help us learn more about your child and provide an opportunity to share important information. If you are yet to meet with your child’s teacher, please email them to arrange a suitable time.

In Literacy, students have published their narratives about an animal going on an adventure, inspired by our class novel, War Horse. We have also begun a persuasive writing piece exploring both sides of the topic: “Should horses have been used in World War 1?” Students will now choose their viewpoint and develop a persuasive piece to support their argument.

In Numeracy, we are focusing on multiplication and division. Students are identifying and applying a range of strategies to solve problems, both through written working and mental computation.

A permission form has been sent via PAM for our Grade 5 students to attend a Discovery Day at Galen on 18 March. This will give students a valuable insight into high school life, exposing them to a variety of subjects that Galen has to offer. Lunch will be provided on the day; however, students will still need to bring their drink bottle, hat and morning tea.

It has been wonderful to see so many reading diaries returned to school with numerous nights recorded. We are getting close to handing out our first reading prizes to students who reach 25 nights of reading. A fantastic achievement! Please continue to encourage your child to read for 15 minutes each day and to record their reading in their diary.

Our second round of the Grade 5 Sport Championship Trophy has been completed. Both teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, determination and teamwork throughout the Flag Wars Trophy competition. The winning team will be announced on Friday.

Stay tuned!
