As a follow up task for our greylead pencil tonal seashells, Grade 6 have moved on to creating tints and tones with paint. Using the work of contemporary Australian artist Linda Kruger as a guide, students have traced outlines from photocopies before tinting and toning their paint in order to create a more realistic object.
Grade 5 viewed and explored the work of contemporary Australian artist Lesley Gibbon before focussing on colour. Using the reverse painting process, students chose a range of paint stick colours to fill their background page before choosing an Australian bird to trace from a photocopy. The next step includes drawing surrounding foliage with white paint pen before blocking in the remaining negative space with gesso.
Here we have used the artwork of Paul Klee as a starting point for a drawing task. Students viewed and explored the works 'Castle and Sun' and 'Cat and Bird' using the concept of balance. We then viewed the picture story book 'Cat and Bird' as further inspiration. Using grid paper as a guide, students traced off around 10 different rectangles onto their page before adding roofs, windows and doors. Next step is to colour with oil pastel and wash over the top with dye.
Indigenous Australian artist Yaritji Young's 'Honey Ant Dreaming' artworks are the inspiration behind the latest work from the Grade 2s. Students used the primary colours and mixed their own secondary colours to represent different members of their family as circles. These circles were then connected through a series of lines, some added using paint sticks and others using paint pen.
Grade 1 recently viewed the Indigenous Australian story of 'How the Kangaroo got her pouch'. Using warm coloured orange circles as a starting point, students outlined and connected these circles with a single coloured paint stick. Outlines were then added like contour lines to fill the page with colour. Next we will be working on our mother and baby kangaroos.
