Year 9 - Rising to new challenges

Term One has certainly gathered momentum, and I would like to commend our Year 9 students on the way they have approached the increasing expectations of secondary school. With new subjects, assessments, and greater independence, many students have demonstrated resilience and maturity in navigating this important stage of their journey.

A key focus at the moment is NAPLAN. Rather than something to worry about, this is a valuable opportunity for students to demonstrate the progress they have made. Preparation does not require hours of stress, but it does require intention. Students are encouraged to revisit some of last year’s key concepts and spend time familiarising themselves with the online format using the Year 9 Practice Site.

Simple habits will make a significant difference: listening carefully to teacher advice, practising under timed conditions, ensuring laptops are charged, and, importantly, getting a good night’s sleep. Remaining calm and focused allows students to perform at their best.

Beyond testing, Year 9 continues to be about growth, learning how to manage time, developing effective study strategies, and asking for support when needed. My door is always open, and I encourage students to reach out if they feel unsure or overwhelmed or just want to talk through an idea.

I am proud of the way this cohort has begun the year and look forward to seeing them continue to build confidence as they prepare for the transition toward senior school.

Year 10 – Such a successful social

What an outstanding evening our Year 10 Social was! The 90s and Noughties theme brought incredible energy, and all Year 10 students looked spectacular as they embraced the spirit of the night. The venue at 441 Murray Street provided a fantastic setting, and it was wonderful to see students enjoying the dance floor and celebrating being together in the city.

A special thank you must go to the Year 10 Social Committee, whose dedication behind the scenes ensured the evening ran seamlessly. From organising the photobooth spaces and table decorations to coordinating the food, trivia, and playlist, their effort was exceptional. Our student DJs also deserve recognition for keeping the atmosphere alive throughout the night. It was most definitely a night to remember.

As enjoyable as the evening was, the term continues at a rapid pace. With multiple assessments underway, this is an important time for students to remain disciplined with their routines. Consistent study habits, balanced schedules, and early preparation are essential as we move closer to subject selection, Year 10 Examinations and the transition into senior school.

Year 10 is a pivotal year. Work experience and subject choices will soon shape future pathways, making it vital for students to reflect carefully on their strengths, interests, and long-term goals. I encourage all students to continue asking questions, seeking support when needed, and maintaining the strong effort they have shown so far.

Well done, Year 10s, let’s keep building momentum.
