Year 11 & 12
Head of Year
As we settle into the steady rhythm of the school year, there is something uniquely special about this time. Students begin to find their feet in their classes, establish routines that balance study, learning and co-curricular commitments, and gradually (hopefully!) discover a sense of balance that supports both their growth and wellbeing. The final years of senior school are an exciting chapter, filled with opportunity, growth and, at times, a range of challenges. Success during these years is rarely accidental; rather, it grows from intention and consistent effort.
Over the past few weeks, students have completed their first block of assessments and are now receiving feedback on their progress thus far. These early results act as signposts — affirming strengths, highlighting areas for growth, and providing direction for the remainder of the term. Parents and carers are encouraged to continue engaging with SEQTA via the Assessment tab to monitor progress and support meaningful conversations at home.

When school and home work in partnership, students are best positioned to flourish.
I encourage students to define goals across multiple areas of their lives. Assessment results can inform academic goals, while co-curricular involvement and personal development should also be considered. Clear goals provide direction, foster ownership and help shift motivation from external expectations to internal drive. Equally important is the cultivation of positive habits. Consistent study routines, thoughtful time management and steady preparation often matter far more than last-minute effort. Small daily disciplines build confidence and capability over time. Year 11 is a big step up from Year 10 and so study routines and habits need to be established early before work gets away from them.
Challenge plays a vital role in growth. Stretching oneself academically, embracing leadership opportunities, and persisting through difficulty all build resilience and character. Setbacks are not failures — they are feedback and opportunities to learn. Seeking support is also a sign of maturity. Whether that support comes from teachers, peers, mentors or family, connection strengthens confidence. I hope students feel comfortable asking for guidance when needed and know that they are always welcome to seek support from me. My office door on Level 3 of 441 Murray Street is always open to Year 11 & 12 students.
Balance remains essential. Academic effort must sit alongside wellbeing. Physical health, friendships, rest and personal interests all contribute to sustained success. I encourage students to work diligently while also caring for themselves and one another. May we remain focused, purposeful and kind — to ourselves and to each other.
Senior school is a journey of growth, learning and accomplishment. With clear goals, strong habits, mutual support and a healthy balance, I hope our students feel well placed to make the most of the opportunities before them.
