Performing Arts News

From Dan Dinnen, Patrick Connor and Sam Howard, Performing Arts teachers
This has been a very big term already for Performing Arts at North Melbourne!
Last week we had a series of workshops for Year 3 and 4 students, run by the Djirri Djirri Women’s Dance Group, who are traditional custodians of the lands on which we live and learn. Mikayla and Hailey from Djirri Djirri led our students through a series of dances, sharing language and culture that brought our students a closer understanding of first nations perspectives and how all of us can share a connection to country. It was also a great chance for students from our Koorie Club to take a leading role, thanking the Djirri Djirri on behalf of our school and strengthening connections. We have a similar incursion from the same group planned for Year 1 and 2 on Wednesday June 17th.
We also had some joyous performances from the Choir and Xylophone group at North Melbourne Community Picnic! Choir and Xylophone kids have enjoyed practicing in their lunchtimes for this event: They also led the Year 3 students in singing “My Island Home” at their assembly in Week 2.
