Junior School  Report

Jocelyn Gepp

The year continues to move quickly, and it has been wonderful to see our Junior School students return to Semester 2 with a positive attitude and strong engagement both inside and outside the classroom.

Across Years 7, 8 and 9, students have continued to build their confidence, independence and connections with one another. Our focus remains on supporting students to develop the skills, routines and relationships they need to be successful at school, while providing them with opportunities to challenge themselves and become active members of our school community.

Our Year 7 students have made a positive start to Semester 2 and are continuing to settle into the routines and expectations of secondary school. It has been pleasing to see their growing confidence and independence as they navigate their learning, relationships and the broader opportunities available to them.

As they continue through their first year of secondary school, we are encouraging our Year 7 students to take greater ownership of their learning and to make the most of the experiences available to them.

Our Year 8 students have had a particularly valuable wellbeing experience this term through the Reach Foundation Respect and Connection Workshop. The program provided students with opportunities to reflect on their own experiences, hear different perspectives and develop a greater understanding of the people around them.

The day encouraged students to think about the importance of respect, connection and positive relationships, while also providing opportunities for the cohort to strengthen their connections with one another. It was fantastic to see many students engaging openly and thoughtfully throughout the day.

For our Year 9 students, this is an important time as they begin looking ahead to their transition into Year 10 and Senior School. Students have been working through their subject selections, considering their interests, strengths and future pathways.

This process is an important step in developing greater ownership of their education, and we have been encouraging students to think carefully about their choices and seek support from staff and families where needed.

Across the Junior School, we have continued to see students engaging positively in their learning and taking advantage of opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether through wellbeing programs, sporting activities, leadership opportunities, social events or classroom learning, these experiences are an important part of developing well-rounded young people.

There is still plenty to look forward to throughout the remainder of the term, including our Junior School Social, Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences, SMART ASSK and the Backflips Against Bullying program. These opportunities continue to support our focus on connection, wellbeing, positive relationships and student growth.

As we move towards the second half of the year, I am incredibly proud of the progress being made across the Junior School. Each year level is at a different stage of its journey, but the common thread is clear: our students are growing in confidence, developing greater independence and continuing to find their place within our school community. We look forward to building on this progress throughout the remainder of the year.
