Stepping into the Winter Break learning about Emotions!

Our 3 year old Rainbow Lorikeets have been filled with vibrant colours and big feelings! Lately the children have been completely immersed and inspired by The Colour Monster and learning about different feelings and how to recognise them in ourselves and in others. This story continues to be a fantastic tool for our emotional learning, helping the children identify, name and learn to regulate their emotions. 

Sorting out Big Feelings and Mixed-Up Emotions

During our interactive storytelling sessions, the children showed joy and engagement and were eagerly helping Colour Monster sort out his mixed-up emotions into different jars. Through this, the children practiced valuable emotional vocabulary and identification. They are learning that it's okay to feel a whole rainbow of emotion sometimes.

Sensory Exploration and Fine Motor Skills Practice through Play

To bring the concept to life we set up a colourful science and sensory station using pipettes and liquid food colouring. The children were invited to experiment with colour matching, squeezing and dropping. While the squeezing and dropping built up their fine motor control, the mixing of colour supported their emotional literacy as we discussed how different colour connect to their everyday feelings.

Yellow = Happiness 

Blue = Sadness

Red = Anger 

Pink = Love 

Black = Afraid
