The write angle
Reading
This week in reading we explored more about how authors create really engaging texts. We looked at how authors create a unique voice that feels original and exciting to read, we looked at how authors show character thoughts and feelings through actions, dialogue and descriptions and found great examples from our books. We also looked at how publishing decisions help aid our comprehension of the books we read, from pictures to font size, type and placement.
Writing
In writing this week we finished writing our stories inspired by Andy Griffiths ‘Just’ series. We learned all about different ways stories can end and experimented with these before deciding on how our stories would end. We began the editing process by revising what we wrote and editing for meaning, spelling and punctuation. We had the opportunity to publish our writing using our iPads and put into practice the things we learnt about what makes published books great.
Maths
In maths this week we have been focussing on measurement. We learned to convert between metres, centimeters, millimetres and kilometres. We learned how to calculate perimeter and area of composite shapes. We also learnt all about angles, how to use a protractor to measure them and how to classify the different types. We explored angles in triangles and found they always add up to 180° and in quadrilaterals they always add up to 360°. We wrote out our names and found the angles within the letters.
