Year 3 News

Money Money Money
It has been another busy and exciting few weeks in Year 3!
Maths
We have been developing our understanding of money and fractions. Students have explored different ways to represent dollar amounts using Australian coins and notes, solved problems involving calculating change, and applied their knowledge in real-world money situations. We have also been learning about fractions by creating and comparing halves, quarters, thirds and other equal parts, using shapes, models and number lines to deepen our understanding.
Reading
We have been diving into a range of mentor texts and investigating what makes a great story. We have explored how authors create memorable characters, build suspense, develop satisfying endings, and use illustrations to enhance meaning. Students have been using these ideas in Writing as they plan, draft and publish their own picture story books, carefully crafting engaging characters, settings and plots to entertain their readers.
One of the highlights of the last couple of weeks was welcoming parents and families into our classrooms to view the students' travel brochures. The students were incredibly proud to showcase the information they had researched and presented about countries around the world. It was wonderful to see them confidently sharing their learning and celebrating the hard work they have put into this project. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the experience so special.
