Year 4 News

From Lina McAliden, Year 4 teacher
The Award-Winning Authors of Grade 4!
Maths
Over the past few weeks, Year 4 has been learning all about fractions! How to compare, add, subtract, colour, draw and understand everything there is to know about fractions. Students have been playing a game called ‘Colour Me Fractions’ to show their understanding in a fun and collaborative way!
Writing
Students have been exploring what makes a great picture book and an engaging story. Is it an exciting plot? Careful planning? Descriptive language? Through class discussions, students discovered that strong stories often combine all of these elements.
Using a unique story seed provided to each class, students began crafting their own narratives. They carefully planned their ideas, developed interesting characters, and used descriptive language to bring their stories to life. Even the teachers joined in on the fun by writing their own classroom stories alongside the students!
Students have now published their final pieces and are eagerly looking forward to sharing them with their buddies. They are incredibly proud of their hard work, creativity, and growth as authors, and we can't wait for others to enjoy their wonderful stories.
