Prep - Firefighters Visit!

Exciting Visits from Our Local Firefighters!

Our Prep classes recently had some very special guests visit our school! As part of the Fire Ed for Foundation program, firefighters from Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) came out for two highly interactive and educational sessions to teach our youngest learners all about home fire safety.

Learning the Basics of Fire Safety

During the visits, the Prep students learned crucial safety rules, including exactly what to do in an emergency and how to identify different community helpers. They explored the vital roles and day-to-day tasks that firefighters perform to keep our neighbourhoods safe.

One of the most important takeaways from their first visit was learning about the "Safe Meeting Place". The students were given a special homework task to work with their families to identify a safe spot outside their homes (like the letterbox) where everyone would gather if a fire ever broke out.

Fire Safety Tip from the Preps: If you ever find yourself in a room with smoke, remember to crawl down low and stay out of the smoke as you make your way to safety, and call Triple Zero (000)!

Exploring the Truck and Using the Hose

The absolute highlight for the students came when they got to step outside and explore a real Fire Rescue Victoria fire truck up close. The firefighters showed them the different tools and life-saving equipment they carry on board.

To wrap up an amazing experience, every Prep student got a turn to step into a firefighter's shoes, hold onto the heavy hose, and squirt water across the grass!

We want to extend a massive thank you to our local FRV station for teaching our Preps how to be fire-safe heroes.
