From The Principal

As we head towards the latter part of Term 3, I am reminded of how quickly time passes. Since becoming Principal of Lakeside College, I don’t think I have ever felt a moment of boredom or time moving slowly.
I think one of the reasons for this is that there is always something going on at Lakeside, be it a sporting event, a fundraising activity, an academic competition or a celebration of learning of some sort. In the busyness of the school term, we sometimes need to be reminded to take a step back, reflect and be grateful for all of the wonderful blessings we experience as being part of this multi-faceted and special community.
This year, we celebrated our 20th year anniversary, and it made me think about time passing by and giving thanks for the gifts and talents of all involved who made Lakeside College not only survive over the years, but thrive.
Back in 2006, this College first opened its doors to its very first group of students. At that time, we were known as Lakeside Lutheran College. While the name has changed, what hasn’t changed is who we are. Our Lutheran identity, our values, our sense of purpose, our commitment to community, remains at the heart of everything we do.
Here in Lakeside College, we are part of something much bigger than just our own school. We belong to Lutheran Education Australia, a network of schools across the country, all working together to support and inspire over 40,000 students.
But our story goes back even further. In 1836, right here in this region, German settlers built a church and school in Harkaway. Even then, people understood how important it was to create places where young people could learn, grow, and belong.
That same belief comes from Martin Luther, whose ideas helped shape the Lutheran tradition. He believed in a God who loves everyone - no exceptions, and in the power of education to shape people who can make a difference in the world. That’s a pretty powerful combination: faith and learning, working side by side.
This year, our theme for our celebration is “Great Is Your Faithfulness.” It reminds us that each new day is a fresh start, filled with new opportunities. And when we look back on the journey of Lakeside College, we can see that faithfulness in action.
There have been incredible highs, moments of success, celebration, and pride. But there have also been challenges. Times like the COVID pandemic tested all of us. And yet, what did we do? We showed resilience. We supported one another. We kept going.
That’s what community looks like. And that’s what makes Lakeside College special.
Because this isn’t just a school, it’s a community you belong to. Every one of us matters. Every one of our students brings something unique, their talents, their ideas, their personality. This place is stronger because they are a part of it.
And I truly believe this: none of us are here by accident. Each one of us has a place in this community and a role to play in its story.
So let’s continue to build a school where people feel safe, supported, and inspired. A place where we look out for each other, aim high, and grow.
Today, we give thanks for how far we’ve come.
And we look forward with excitement to where we’re going.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the gift that is Lakeside College.
Your grace and love have been steadfast throughout the years, and we know that you have walked with us every step of the way. As Scripture reminds us, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” — Lamentations 3:22–23
May your blessings and grace continue to guide us along our journey. Help us to place our trust in you, knowing that “the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” — Psalm 23:1
Bless our students, that they may grow in wisdom, knowledge, compassion and faith. Bless our teachers and staff with patience, courage and understanding as they nurture and encourage those in their care. Bless our families and strengthen the bonds that connect our community.
May Lakeside College continue to be a place where your love is known, your grace is shared, and every person is valued as one created in your image.
When we face challenges, remind us of your promise: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God.” — Isaiah 41:10
Give us hearts that seek to serve others, following the example of Christ, who calls us to “love one another as I have loved you.” — John 15:12
Lord, continue to lead Lakeside College into the future. May all that we do be grounded in your Word, shaped by your grace, and offered in service to others.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in faith, so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” — Romans 15:13
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
Amen.
