Computer Xplorers for Digi-Tech

As part of our Science Week celebrations (Monday 17th August – Friday 21st August), Lakeside College was delighted to welcome Computer Xplorers to our campus!
Students from Prep through to Year 6 participated in dedicated 50-minute, curriculum-aligned sessions.
These interactive workshops embed our commitment to innovation, 21st-century learning, and experiential education, fostering critical thinking and creativity while supporting students to utilize their God-given gifts and talents.
Workshop Focus Units
Prep – Year 1: RoboticsOur youngest learners brought programming to life by exploring the foundations of digital technologies through an interactive, hands-on robotics session. Students were introduced to Edison robots. Our Prep and Year 1 students operated the Edison robots using sensors, sound and blocking obstacles. They ended the session avoiding the lines in a circuit and competing their robots in Sumo-wrestling mode.
Year 2, Year 5 & Year 6: Game DesignDrawing upon their creativity and digital skills, students used specialized software to design and build their very own functional video games. Our Year 2, 5 and 6 students explored the world of Bloxels, which is a hands-on platform and digital tool, used for building, designing and customizing video games. Our Year 2s explored pixel art and designed characters for a video game, while our Year 5 and 6 students designed their own characters as well as the whole layout and features of their very own video games.
- Year 3 – Year 4: 3D DesignStepping into the role of junior architects, students used introductory Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and 3D printers to turn their ideas into 3D projects. Our Year 3 students designed their own luggage tags using TinkerCAD, and the Year 4 students designed their own 3D Theme parks, and name tags.
Our students engaged in an inspiring week that enriched their passion for the Digital Technologies space and all that 21st-century learning has to offer.
