Celebrating Our Year 3 Poets

Over the past few weeks, our Year 3 students have embarked on a wonderful journey into the world of poetry. 

What began with exploring poetic devices and discovering how words can be used in creative and powerful ways has developed into a celebration of imagination, language and self-expression.

Students have explored a range of poetic devices, including rhyme, rhythm, repetition, descriptive language and word choice, and have applied these features to a variety of poetry forms. Along the way, they have experimented with words, played with ideas and discovered that poetry can be fun, funny, thoughtful and deeply personal.

As a culmination of their learning, each student has created their own Poetry Anthology, bringing together some of their favourite poems they have crafted throughout the unit. These anthologies showcase not only their creativity, but also the growth they have made as young writers. 

The completed anthologies are a wonderful reflection of the journey our Year 3 students have taken. From experimenting with rhyme and syllables to carefully selecting words and crafting their own ideas, our students have grown in confidence as poets and authors.

Most importantly, they have discovered that there is no single way to write a poem. Poetry gives us the freedom to play with language, express our ideas and see the world in different ways.

We are incredibly proud of the creativity, enthusiasm and persistence demonstrated by our Year 3 poets. Their anthologies are a wonderful celebration of their learning — and perhaps the beginning of a lifelong love of poetry and writing!
