From the Rector

Dear Mazenod Community,

There have been so many celebrations and opportunities to gather over the past two weeks and I hope to share a couple of them here.

Our Mass for the Feast of the Assumption, Marian Procession and Ferrogusto Italian Festival were all celebrated with great joy. Mary’s entry into heaven at the end of her earthly life gives us all the hope of a similar journey. Jesus promised eternal life to us and he has kept his word.

Our Year 7 students and their dads/male mentors enjoyed a breakfast and classes throughout the school. Even though so many people attended, we also spared a thought for all those dads who couldn’t make it. I give thanks for everyone involved and it was an honour to offer a blessing to all.

Our entire College recently experienced what we call Boarders’ Long Weekend. These days provide boarders and their families with precious opportunities for time together as well as a break from the intensity of boarding life.

I sincerely hope that these days were great for all of our families.

During these days, I went visiting boarding families in Ardath, Kulin, Lake Grace, Frankland River, Albany and Denmark. These towns took my visited places to beyond 300 and the scenery and landscapes were stunning.

It genuinely is an honour and joy to visit families and I am very happy to do so for any family. Even though I am not from WA, I most definitely have been welcomed by so many people and this is genuinely appreciated.

Part of the value of these days came to fruition at the Dowerin Field Days when there were so many links with people from many towns.

Mazenod boarding continues to be respected across the state and more families are considering that for their child. Many enrolments are coming off the recommendation of our families and we genuinely appreciate that.

Thank you to all Mazenod families who have made the boarders and their families feel welcome in the school and local community.

For this week’s newsletter, I would like to share the Mazenod For Dalwallinu Project by Mason F from Pithara East. Mason chose to support the Dally Show through offering free face painting to the young children of the area. His project brought great joy to many young people, with 80+ faces being painted on the day. 

Mason noticed that very few activities catered for the 4–12-year-old age range and his project looked to address that through bright colours and beautiful designs and gave the children a sense of joy and belonging. Many people commented on the wonderful way that Mason looked after everyone so well.
