Strong Young Men

So many important events take place across the College each week, in addition to very important experiences.  In the lead-up to Fathers’ Day, our Year 7 students came together last Thursday morning for a Fathers and Friends Breakfast. Fathers, Stepfathers, Grandfathers, Family Friends and Relatives, Brothers and Mentors.  All came – on a very chilly winter’s morning - because they care deeply for the young men they accompanied and shared breakfast with.

The joint presence of the boys and their Fathers and Friends signaled something very valuable in the relationship between each of them. Their Fathers and Friends teach the values of life - not just through words, but through daily example. Qualities such as inner strength, integrity, resilience, humility, kindness and respect are learned by these young men who are learning it from them.

The morning was a celebration of connection, gratitude and the relationships that are shaping the young men at Mazenod into capable, compassionate and courageous human beings – and the consistent partnership between home and school is one of the greatest strengths we can offer our boys as they navigate the path from boyhood into adulthood.  More than ever in this time of their lives, they need Fathers and Friends who model healthy masculinity and provide a steady presence in the lives of our young men. They need their unconditional love, strong guidance, clear boundaries, unending patience and forgiveness that separates the essence of a young man from the errors that he will make along the way. 

It was a very special experience where the connections were visible and somehow tangible as well. It buzzed with men and young men in conversation, the clank and clatter of breakfast cutlery, and broad smiles of coming together in a safe space. 

We are all very grateful for the blessings that make Mazenod College such a special place with strong community spirit.

Thank you for accepting the invitation and showing-up!  They need you.
